DESCRIPTION:From the NEQM Website:  “The NEQM proudly presents an exhibition of award-winning quilts and textile arts from some of world’s most accomplished artists in Quilts Japan: The 17th Quilt Nihon. \nFor more than a decade\, the New England Quilt Museum has been the exclusive Northeast host for this celebrated exhibition\, which premieres at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum before traveling internationally. It features some of the most extraordinary and innovative works from the biennial competition of the Japanese Handicraft Instructors’ Association (JHIA)\, which sponsors the largest international quilt contest in Japan and one of the most prestigious in the world. This year’s Quilt Nihon Exhibition features 53 award-winning and notable works\, including 18 entries from the competition’s newest category–miniature quilts.”

Williamson\nAugust 12 to September 6\, 2025 \n“Life is always changing in one way or another\, and the world around me is always moving\, swaying in the breeze\, or changed by light.” — Marianne R. Williamson \nLight and movement have been recurring themes in Williamson’s work for nearly 45 years since she embraced textiles as her artistic medium. A classical education in art from L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Geneva\, Switzerland provided a solid foundation for the painterly qualities of her distinctive scenes of sunlit gardens\, windswept landscapes\, ripples on water and ocean waves. \nWilliamson’s work reflects a life dedicated to art and a mastery of diverse fiber art techniques. She ice dyes her cottons and silks\, and applies hand-painted details\, raw edge appliqué\, layered textiles and free motion quilting. When viewed at a distance\, Williamson’s art quilts are easily mistaken for paintings\, a characteristic that has earned her national recognition\, numerous awards and countless admirers.”

DESCRIPTION:From the NEQM Website \n“Film Screening and Conversation with the Director\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Quilters\, 2024 Award Winning Documentary \nThe Quilters (2024)\, directed by Jenifer McShane\, follows the daily lives of several quilters inside the sewing room at South Central Correctional Center\, a Level 5 maximum security prison in a small town in Missouri. In tracking several quilts from design to completion\, audiences come to know these men\, witnessing their struggles\, triumphs\, and sense of pride as they create something beautiful in this windowless sacred space\, deep within the prison walls. \nThe 32-minute film was recently shortlisted for the Documentary Short Film category for the 97th Academy Awards. \nThis public program is free to all.”
