Williamson \nLight and movement have been recurring themes in Williamson’s work for nearly 45 years since she embraced textiles as her artistic medium. A classical education in art from L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Geneva\, Switzerland provided a solid foundation for the painterly qualities of her distinctive scenes of sunlit gardens\, windswept landscapes\, ripples on water and ocean waves. \nWilliamson’s work reflects a life dedicated to art and a mastery of diverse fiber art techniques. She ice dyes her cottons and silks\, and applies hand-painted details\, raw edge appliqué\, layered textiles and free motion quilting. When viewed at a distance\, Williamson’s art quilts are easily mistaken for paintings\, a characteristic that has earned her national recognition\, numerous awards and countless admirers.”

DESCRIPTION:from the NEQM website: \nTo Every Season\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorks by Salley Mavor\nSeptember 9 through December 31\, 2025 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“My aim is to create universal and playful narratives that offer people of all ages a way to experience the brilliance of nature.” \n–Salley Mavor\n\nThis exhibition is a unique opportunity to take in the exceptional detail and 3-dimentional quality of Salley Mavor’s bas-relief embroideries. It consists of a wide selection of seasonal landscapes that capture the wonder and magic of the natural world. Rarely seen early works on loan from private collections are included\, as well as recent pieces\, including her Four Seasons series. \nThe award-winning artist has spent four decades developing her signature style and working methods\, carving out her own niche within the children’s book world and the fiber art community. Seeing her artwork up close is like being immersed in an enchanting miniature world full of characters\, props\, and scenery\, all created by hand with stitching\, fabric\, beads\, wire\, and found objects. \nOn view are framed tableaus\, original picture book illustrations\, and sculptural objects from the past 40 years\, including dioramas inhabited by wee folk characters set up in display cases.

Working with handmade papers\, natural materials\, beads\, and stitching\, I create contemplative objects that straddle the boundary between sculpture and book. The Spirit Books remind us of what is at stake in today’s world. Acknowledging the strength and the fragility of nature\, they are both celebration and reflection.” \n–Susan Kapuscinski Gaylord\nA visual artist since the late 1970s\, Susan Kapuscinski Gaylord’s most recent works include handmade books\, calligraphy\, digital compositions\, and the series of Spirit Books which are the focus of her NEQM exhibition. This evocative and meditative installation invites viewers to slow down\, engage deeply with the art and appreciate quiet contemplation. \nGaylord’s work is in the library collections of the Museum of Modern Art\, the University of Arizona\, Wellesley College and Yale University. She has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States and in Canada and Korea.

DESCRIPTION:From the New England Quilt Museum Website: \nBlue holds a unique place in our human consciousness. It is an elusive color\, rarely found in nature\, and yet universally associated with the sky and the sea. In our imaginations and the art we create\, it manifests as wide horizons and starry nights\, peaceful waters and powerful waves\, the royal and the divine. \nThe quilts selected for this exhibition by NEQM Curator\, Pamela Weeks\, span 200 years and range from exceptional antique quilts to cutting-edge contemporary works. They not only illustrate a diverse range of techniques and styles\, but also display an extravagant variety of blue textiles–deep indigo\, Prussian blue\, turquoise\, cobalt and cornflower\, to name just a few. The works are complemented by informative curatorial research on the intriguing\, lesser-known\, and often brutal\, history of this captivating color.
